Very doubtful lol. However, if a driver change takes X amount of time and the pit stop takes less time I'm confident they won't let the car go until the driver change is complete even if a virtual swap only takes seconds.

I don't think he was running to the bathroom like the article said... he was running to get his helmet and HANS device.
And sure they can... if your partner isn't ready and you come in because of a flat tire or unexpected crash damage to get a wing replaced they can certainly simulate the other driver being AFK lol
